Public weather forecasts are only good for about a week out. Anything further than that built on "weather" would just be guessing — so HighTine doesn't pretend otherwise. Past the current week, Long Range Outlook runs entirely on state-calibrated peak-rut timing, grounded in the well-established fact that whitetail rut timing is remarkably consistent year over year — driven far more by day length than by weather, temperature, or moon phase.

Only the current week's number blends in live weather. Every week beyond that is pure calendar — and the app tells you that directly on the card, so you always know exactly what you're looking at: "Rut timing is calendar-driven and holds up months out. Only this week blends live weather — beyond that, the score reflects the rut calendar and this property's terrain alone."

It's explicitly not a solunar or moon-phase tool.

The day-to-day, hour-to-hour version — live weather, run through your property's own terrain.

Built from live weather — pressure, wind, temperature, precipitation, cloud cover, moon illumination, snow depth — plus a dawn/dusk activity bonus and a rut-phase bonus for wherever the current date falls in the season.

What makes it property-specific instead of generic: it pulls real modifiers straight from that property's own terrain analysis — how well the current wind lines up with your terrain's travel corridors, an elevation-variance penalty for ground that swirls wind instead of carrying it cleanly, how much your cover buffers a hot afternoon, and how food percentage shifts the score in early and late season and after a fresh snow. Moon illumination itself is computed directly from real lunar-phase astronomy, not pulled from a bought solunar feed.

Peak-rut dates are calibrated per state — e.g. mid-November across most of the Midwest, late October in parts of the Deep South, into December-January further south — sourced from published rut-timing research and reporting.

The property's own score ceiling is set to 250, not 100, specifically so a genuinely stacked-good hour (rut, perfect wind, a front rolling through) can show a number that actually reflects how good the day is instead of clipping at an arbitrary 100.
